If He-Man joined the Avengers, I would immediately go out and get an "I LOVE MARVEL" tattoo.

As I recall, Skeletor's first line in the movie was "I am Skeletor, I dare anything." Compare that to the first thing Darkseid says to Orion in New Gods #2, "I am Darkseid, I dare anything."

And don't forget the climactic battle where they ride around on something very similar to Mr. Miracle's aerodiscs.

I actually saw this in the theater, and hearing that the DVD is so cheap, I'm very tempted to pick it up.

Also, Frank Langella was profiled on CBS Sunday Morning a while back, and when the interviewer asked him (rather dismissively) about this movie, he said that he actually loved playing Skeletor, and that he took the role for his young son, who was a big He-Man fan at the time. Gotta respect the man for that!

Waited for quite a few years afterward to see if anything would come of that sequel tease, but alas ... maybe one day, if we keep believing.

I think Byrne also linked Metron with that weird little gnome guy.
... so yeah, maybe it's not THAT convincing. Fun, though.
(It might be bit strong to say the director was inspired by the New Gods though; he was inspired by the works of Jack Kirby as a whole, according to http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2006/11/02/comic-book-urban-legends-revealed-75/)
