Podcast - Episode 129: Black Panther

Guys! Black Panther was SO. GOOD.

We have lots of thoughts. And Dave sits down with Leslie Amegavie, a die-hard Black Panther fan who emigrated to Nova Scotia from Ghana, who has even more thoughts! Leslie saw the movie four times during opening weekend, so he's pretty pumped about it.

The movie was seriously so good. I basically never want to hear anyone speak ever again who doesn't have some sort of African accent.

I can't wait to see it again. In particular, I can't wait to see my new king, M'Baku again.

Mmmmmmm'Baku.

Good job, everyone. You made a great movie.

Oh, and yes. I lost my damn mind at that end credits scene. Of course I did.

Podcast - Episode 114: Comic Cover Clichés

Crisis#7-00.jpg

Apologies for the very visual topic this week, but I will include some helpful images in the blog post.

Before I post some covers, here is a link to Dave's Letterbox page, where you can follow along with the spooooooooky movies he's been watching this October.

Spooooooooooky movies like this one, 1990's The Ambulance, which features the Marvel offices and some familiar Marvel faces (faces like Stan Lee, not like Bruce Banner). Dave has helpfully cut to one of the Marvel scenes here.

Oof. Eric Roberts' hair, huh?

Ok, let's look at some covers. Here you will see, in order, examples of "Death of Whoever"; "Floating Heads"; "Charging at Each Other"; "Scales of Justice" or "Big Guy Little Guys"; and "Just a Bunch of Guys".

Thanks for listening!!!

Podcast - Episode 107: Ms Marvel: No Normal (Marvel) by G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona

book club banner.jpg

This week for the summer book club we read the first volume of Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona. Debuting in 2014, Kamala Khan has quickly become a fan favourite character and this book definitely shows you why.

I haven't read the final issue of Secret Empire yet, as of writing this, but I am very much looking forward to some sweet, sweet angst. But I really will feel bad for Zemo. He's gonna be so sad about not being Steve's friend! These panels from issue #9 killed me:

Aw. Sweetie.

Thanks for listening! See you next week when we will be talking about The Valiant by Jeff Lemire, Matt Kindt, and Paolo Rivera!

Podcast - Episode 103: Black Panther, The Complete Collection vol. 1 by Christopher Priest

Week three of the summer book club and we read the first volume of Christopher Priest's run on Black Panther. Seventeen issues of Everett Ross is whole lot of Everett Ross.

Here we have T'Challa with his...um...underage(?!) sex partners in waiting.

Sensibly dressed for their jobs of protecting the king of their nation. But at least they are ready to go if, at any time, T'Challa decides to sleep with one of them/make them his wife. Yuck.

This page here will give you an idea of why it took us so long to get through this book:

Black Panther's other super power: talking really, really, really fast.

Here he does it again, to Captain America:

Steve: "Sorry, friend. I missed everything you said after 'I have known...'"

And finally, here is that brutal Falcon costume design:

Here's the link to the Sept. 2017 Men's Journal feature on Jeremy Renner. It provided me with a lot of laughs.

But let's leave off with this promo image for Marvel 1,000,000 B.C. of Ghost Rider riding on a flaming mammoth, shall we?

Yesssssss.

Actually, let's leave with this photo of Armie Hammer from a Sept. 2017 Vanity Fair's style portfolio:

How dare you, sir?

Podcast - Episode 55: SDCC and Doctor Strange: The Oath

Dave went to San Diego Comic Con! He's back to talk all about the things he saw, the people he met, the awards he won, and the things he bought! We also cover as much of the news that came out of SDCC as possible, including our thoughts on about a hundred movie trailers.

It's also another instalment of our summer book club, and this week we are talking about Doctor Strange: The Oath by Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin.

PLUS we have a lot of comics to talk about! Steve Rogers Captain America #3 came out this week and it was awesome and nuts! And in This Week in Winter Soldier, I talk all about Thunderbolts #3 and tell Dave a story about fans going absolutely bananas on Sebastian Stan's Instagram when he cancelled his Wizard World Chicago appearance.

You can't watch Arty, the short film directed by Nathan Boone that Dave acts in, online yet, but here is the trailer:

Dave got me a present at SDCC! It's an amazing print by Marvel Studios' Head of Visual Development, Ryan Meinerding

Man, so pretty.

Ryan Meinerding has like the best job in the world.

Thanks Dave!

Here are those Iron Fist/Power Man Bill Sienkiewicz Marvel ads Dave was talking about:

Alright! I hope you enjoyed, or will enjoy, Doctor Strange: The Oath! It's really, really good!!!!

Podcast - Episode 44: CIVIL WAR!!!!!! (with J.Bone)

OHMYGODIT'SFINALLYHERE!!!!

We are joined once again by our pal J.Bone to discuss the movie that we've all been, um, looking forward to, Captain America: Civil War (or, as I like to call it BUCKY! BUCKY! BUCKY! BUCKY!).

Look, I'm not even going to write that much this week. Because this episode is LONG. We joke at the beginning about going two hours, but guess what? We completely did. Longer, even!

I cut as much as I can, and the rest, I am sure you'll agree, is solid gold.

Here's the thing though, guys. I got so caught up talking about the actual plot of this movie that I forgot to mention how scorching hot Winter Soldier is in it. And so did J! Like, what was this episode even for?!

So here are some things I forgot to mention in this episode:

  1. Bucky is crazy hot;
  2. Like, so hot;
  3. Like, I could not CUSTOM BUILD a hotter man;
  4. He's so beefy and scruffy and those eyes are so sad but also so smouldering;
  5. I wish he had been shirtless;
  6. What a god damn waste of a jacked Sebastian Stan. I mean, come ON!;
  7. Not for, like, the whole movie, but maybe just an extended shower scene?;
  8. The tank top was nice;
  9. He looked good in white;
  10. I love him and I am in love with him.

So yeah. That's important.

Hey, here's a supercut of that Late Late Show episode clip where Sebastian Stan flirts hard with Sharon Stone until she flirts back with him. Then he turns into a giggling mess. It's VERY CUTE!

I wish that video wasn't edited so heavily. You can probably find that whole episode online somewhere. I would recommend. Zach Woods is very funny. At the end of the episode Sebastian turns to him and says "we should be friends!"

Anyway, enjoy the episode. We had fun recording it. I shouldn't speak for everyone. I had fun recording it, even though it went way past my bedtime.

Now let's start the countdown to the next Avengers movie! 2018! YEAH!!!!
